ActiveX Control and Windows XP Service Pack3

E-mail Print PDF
After applying Windows XP Service Pack 3 some users reported that the ActiveX Control becomes disabled. The issue is by design and is due to security changes in Windows XP with SP3. The Terminal Services ActiveX control in Internet Explorer is disabled by default. Here is a  Microsoft workaround:Click on Tools -> Manage Add-Ons -> Enable or Disable Add-Ons in IE to enable the Terminal Services ActiveX control. If you are unable to find or enable the Terminal Services ActiveX control in IE7 on Windows XP with SP3 as a workaround delete the following registry keys:HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{7390f3d8-0439-4c05-91e3-cf5cb290c3d0} HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{4eb89ff4-7f78-4a0f-8b8d-2bf02e94e4b2) Once you delete these keys, the ActiveX control should be enabled in IE7.Note: Microsoft has disabled the Terminal Services ActiveX control in Internet Explorer for security reasons. You need to create a system restore checkpoint  before changing anything in the registry and applying this workaround.

Computer security at risk

E-mail Print PDF
Many businesses are facing a new computer security risk. Trojans are delivering fake antivirus programs to the user's computer. Two of these programs are AntivirusXP2008 and Antivirus 2009. These two programs have several similarities. Once they are installed on the user's computer, they start displaying pop-up messages with bogus information. For example, the antivirusxp2008 program constantly displays the message: “your computer is infect with 621 viruses.” In addition, there is another pop-up that informs the user that the demo version, or the trial version has expired and the user must purchase the full version to remove all these viruses. The programs also change the computer's background and screensaver to show that the computer is infected with viruses. The programs also disable the windows firewall, and make several changes in the windows registry. Our Advice to all computer users is not to panic. These are rogue antivirus programs.  In most case the computer is not infected with as large a number of viruses as they claim. Please use common sense and do not give your credit card numbers to purchase this program. You will not only put your computer at further risks, but you will also jeopardize your identity.Always follow these recommendations:o   Get professional technical services to make sure your computer and network systems are secure.o   Make sure you have a virus protection program on every computer and server.o   Make sure your virus protection system has the latest update and virus definition.o   Make sure that you scan for threats on a regular basis.o   If you think your computer is showing some unusual behavior, run a full virus scan on your computer.o   Protect your computer and your identity with an antispyware application.o   Make sure that your antispyware solution has the latest update.o   Make sure that your email system has an antispam solution. If you have any viruses or spyware threats on your computer you need to contact us to help you with the removal process and check that you network is secure.
